Oasis runs a range of projects in our community – partnering to meet immediate needs and create new opportunities. Our projects make an amazing difference, but it also serves as the pathway to what is at our core – inspiring and equipping Change Agents. Our Change Agent process looks different for every person but always consist out of key stages:
Friends of Oasis
Our projects reach more than 10,000 people in Cosmo City and its surrounding communities every year – to name but a few, it includes babies being immunised, patients in our home-based care programme, children in our afterschool clubs and young people on our training courses … all these are interactions that open doors of opportunity, literally safe lives and are deeply meaningful in itself. Our work is made possible by generous donations and hours of selfless service by many volunteers. All these people, although in many ways very different, have their friendship with Oasis South Africa in common.
Apprentices
Oasis recognises that true community transformation can only take place when the community owns the change. We work towards this in Cosmo City by inspiring and equipping ordinary people to become Change Agents – who will bring about real and relevant transformation from within their communities, wherever they live. A standing invitation is extended to all our friends to become apprentices, entering into an intensive and intentional journey of personal development and community service as we seek to follow Jesus. It is important to note that we are committed developing our friendship with all – regardless of whether they are interested in becoming apprentices or not.
Change Agents
Becoming a Change Agent is a lifelong process. It is a journey that will continue till the day we die. Going through the apprenticeship launches us into a specific kind of life. Change Agents consist of a community of people passionate about ongoing personal growth and community transformation – growing and serving wherever they find themselves, while keeping connected to others seeking to live in a similar way.
